One attribute that many coral reef paintings have, including ones with fish movement, is peacefulness.  In
our mind, often subconsciously,  we know that wind and wave may be raging at the surface but down below it’s
calmer and quieter.   Conversely the sailing paintings tend toward raging wind and wave.  They are power rather
than peace.  Stormy weather mutes colors.  The muted color leaves the eye little place to escape from the power
of the sea.  No strong blues or brightness or rainbows, only the raw waves and clouds forcing reality on us.
